Jan. 5. With the agreement and at the urging of his wife domna Ysabell regis Amalrici filia, and with the advice of his barones and homines, Henricus comes Trecensium palatinus makes a sealed eleemosynary grant. He gives the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, frater Gaufridus du Donion magister and its brothers the city wall of Acre over the Gate of St John and the barbacan [berbacana], and the platea that is between the wall and the barbacan, to build there a gate, together with as much of the ditch as is needed for the building. The Hospitallers, their men [homines] and all their goods may freely leave and enter the town through that gate at all hours by night and day. They may possess any tower or other structure they build over the gate. Henricus will have a porter [portator] on duty at the gate, who will have the key and preserve the rights [of the crown], but will not hinder the brothers of the Hospital or their men [homines].
