First half of year. Jerusalem. Ansellus gloriosissimi Sepulcri cantor et presbiter writes to Gerbert, bishop of Paris, the archdeacons Stephen and Rainald, the dean Bernier, the precentor Adam and all the chapter of the cathedral of Paris. Although absent for 24 years, he records how he was brought up among them and has never forgotten them. Out of love for them he persuaded dominus W. [Warmund of Picquigny], the patriarch of Jerusalem, and the canons of the Holy Sepulchre to be joined in prayer to Paris. He sends a relic of the True Cross, which had belonged to King David of Georgia and was brought by David’s widow to Jerusalem when, in the pontificate of Patriarch Gibelin, she retired to a Georgian nunnery there. This nunnery came under Latin patriarchal jurisdiction.
