text:
Jan. 30. Rieti. Pope Honorius III rehearses the crimes of the count of Tripoli: his seizure of Antioch and its citadel, which Cardinal Pelagius of Albano, then papal legate, had committed to the care of the Hospitallers of St John; and his seizure of the commandery [domus] of the Hospitallers of St John in Tripoli and his cruelty to the brothers there. The papal legate excommunicated him with papal authority, but he ignored the sentence and has done so for 7 years. The pope therefore orders the archbishops of Nicosia and Caesarea and the abbas of the Mt of Olives, who resides in Acre, to renew the sentence of excommunication publicly every Sunday and on Feasts and to augment the punishment by laying an interdict on all the count’s land until he makes satisfaction.
