*Febr. 1-28. Tarento. The emperor Frederick II orders his baiulus in the Holy Land [Balian of Sidon] to impose the standard duty at the cathena of 10 per cent on goods carried by the Genoese. After protests, the baiulus fails to carry out the emperor’s instruction.
