Aug 12. Rieti. Writing to the emperor Frederick, Pope Gregory IX approves the appointment of Riccardus Filangerius marescallus as Frederick’s baiulus in the Holy Land, but as a personal representative rather than as a legatus of the empire, because the latter title would be prejudicial.
