Aug. 8. Spoleto. Pope Gregory IX writes to the barones of the kingdom of Jerusalem and the citizens of Acre, the archbishop of Ravenna, the magistri of the Knights Templar and the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, the preceptor of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans and all the clergy in the kingdom of Jerusalem. Concerned for the safety of the Holy Land and after consulting the patriarchs of Constantinople, Antioch and Jerusalem and many other prelates, who were visiting the Holy See, and in the presence of Frederick, Romanorum imperator semper augustus, Ierusalem et Sicilie rex, he is sending the archbishop of Ravenna as papal legate to the East to enforce the peace between the emperor and the barones of Jerusalem and citizens of Acre negotiated by the patriarch of Antioch and the magister of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans. He demands that the peace be observed and that the discord between the marescallus of the emperor and the barones and citizens cease.
