[Mar. 9. Lateran. Because many of those convicted of heresy and condemned to be transported to the Holy Land cannot be distinguished from those they might corrupt, Pope Gregory IX orders the patriarchs of Antioch and Jerusalem and their suffragans to compel these persons to wear some sign that will mark them out.
