[Mar. 9. Lateran. Hearing that many religious communities in the kingdom of Jerusalem retain thieves, who are commonly called scaranni, who despoil the Sarraceni in times of peace, thereby endangering truces between Christian and Sarraceni, Pope Gregory IX orders the patriarch of Jerusalem and his suffragans to compel the religious to eject the scaranni.
