Jul. 31. Anagni. Pope Gregory IX has heard that the prince of Antioch and other Latins have been handing lands to Greeks, Armenians and others, who do not pay tithes, receiving, in place of tithes, a due that is commonly called monet. Latins, moreover, are claiming exemption from tithes on vineyards, gardens and lands tilled at their own expense and others, both Latin and Greek, are refusing to pay tithes at all. The pope orders the archbishop of Tyre and the bishops of Acre and Tortosa [Anteradensis episcopus] to enforce the payment of tithes.
