1243. Hearing that the prior and brothers of the Knights Templar are proposing to the Holy See that they extract the Templum Domini [the Temple esplanade] in Jerusalem from his lordship and that they build a castle there, the emperor Frederick orders [his bailli] in the Holy Land to demand that they withdraw from their plans and recall their emissaries, on the threat of the confiscation of their properties and goods in the kingdom and throughout the western empire.
