January 25. Pope Innocent IV writes to the chapter of Bethlehem, announcing his decision to confirm the election of the papal chaplain, Gottifredo dei Prefetti, as the new bishop of Bethlehem. The pope orders the canons to receive Gottifredo as father and pastor with humility and to execute his orders with obedience and reverence. Otherwise, the Apostolic See will respect and carry out the excommunications enacted by the aforesaid bishop against any rebels and those who contradict.
