September 20. Lyons. Pope Innocent IV writes to Master T[ommaso?], archpriest of Ss Sergio [e Bacco] da Suburra in Rome, relating that the bishop-elect of Bethlehem G[ottifredo dei Prefetti] revealed that although the bishop-elect of Paphos Gio[vanni] Romano, when once claiming to be bishop-elect of Bethlehem, dared to alienate certain possessions and other things of the church of Bethlehem illicitly, nevertheless he keeps some goods of that church unjustly. The pope orders the addressee to have the bishop-elect of Paphos cited peremptorily to appear in person in the pope’s presence before 1 March, [1246], to respond to Bishop-elect [Gottifredo] concerning the above as the law requires. Whatever the addressee does concerning this he shall relate to the pope in writing.
