July 6. Lyons. Pope Innocent IV writes to [Balian of Ibelin] the lord of Beirut and bailiff of the Kingdom of Jerusalem, complimenting him on his involvement with the conservation of the Kingdom of Jerusalem and urging him to continue his efforts in order to be commended by God and men. If there should be a peace between the Church and its adversaries, who are also the bailiff’s enemies, the pope will include [Balian] and his vassals in that peace.
