March 18. Lyons. Pope Innocent IV writes to the prior of the Friars Preacher (Dominicans) of Nicosia, relating that Bonvassal [of Aude] chancellor of the Kingdom of Cyprus is suffering much harassment from several people, both clerics and laymen, who seek to harm others. The pope orders the prior not to permit the chancellor’s person or possessions to be unduly harmed by anyone, notwithstanding the Dominicans’ papal indulgence that they are not bound to deal unwillingly with cases committed to them by the Apostolic See.
