July 15. Lyons. Innocent IV writes to the archdeacon of Sidon, Master Filippo, relating that he was informed on Filippo’s behalf that, since [cardinal-]bishop of Albano (Pierre de Colmieu) conferred on him, on papal authority, the then vacant archdeaconate of Sidon and invested him with it, and the pope confirmed this collation and investiture, he fears lest he was bound by a sentence of excommunication at the time of the collation and investiture, although he does not believe he was, and he asks the pope to provide for him. The pope wishes the collation, investiture and confirmation to remain in force, that sentence notwithstanding, if perhaps unaware he was then bound by it, provided that he is not bound at present.
