c. 1248 the citizens of Aigues-Mortes petition King Louis IX for various privileges including that the king should arrange for them to have the same freedoms and exemptions at the chaîne at Acre as do the Venetians, Genoese and Pisans; that the king should obtain for the citizens of Aigues-Mortes a street or areas in Acre just as the Venetians, Genoese and Pisans have; that they should have their own consul in Acre nominated by the consuls of Aigues-Mortes who will have jurisdiction over the people of Aigues-Mortes and should have the same salary as does the Pisan consul there.
