March 18. Lyons. Pope Innocent IV writes to the Commune of Marseille (Massiliense), relating that he has great affection for them because of their past and future services. They informed him that, considering the assistance in the acquisition of the Kingdom of Jerusalem (Ierosolimitanum) and Tripoli and in the support of Ascalon (Esqualona) and Jaffa (Ioppa) that he received from the Commune of Marseille (Massiliense) in those days, the late Baldwin (Balduinus) the fourth king of Jerusalem (Ierosolimitanus) granted the commune perpetually the free faculty to enter and leave the kingdom and to buy and sell freely without any exaction, as well as the casale called Ramie along with its peasants and appurtenances, as is more fully contained in his privilege for this. Inclined by their entreaties, the pope confirms and strengthens the concession, inserting the text of the privilege verbatim.
