Pope Innocent IV writes to Patriarch [Opizo Fieschi] of Antioch and Bishop [Opizo] of Tripoli, relating that the approved tradition in Antioch is said to be that anyone completing his 15th year obtains full dominion over his goods and is considered an adult in all things. Since the noble man Bohemond [VI], the son of the late Prince B[ohemond V] of Antioch and count of Tripoli, has begun his fifteenth year, as the pope has learned, and will complete it next August, therefore, notwithstanding the guardianship or regency that the noble woman [Lucia Conti di Segni], his mother, must exercise until that month according to local tradition, softening the rigour of the law in this matter with his plenitude of power, the pope orders the addressees to have [Bohemond] given the rights in the Principality of Antioch and the county of Tripoli (in such a way that his mother’s dowry is not affected), especially since she cannot usefully govern the principality and the county in these times, although she is a noble, because they are assailed by many evildoers and the enemies of the Christian faith, whom the fear of God does not restrain unless the temporal sword forces them. The addressees shall use ecclesiastical censure against rebels and anyone who contradicts, after a warning, without appeal, notwithstanding various obstacles.
