Pope Innocent IV writes to the noble man John of Ibelin count of Jaffa and lord of Ramla, relating that, as he was told on the addressee’s behalf, King [Henry I] of Cyprus granted to him and his heirs the county of Jaffa and Ascalon – whose conferral belongs to the king – on land and sea, with all dominion, appurtenances and rights, whether over cities, castles, burghs, towns, casals, gastines, domains, fiefs, homages, men, women and children of his county, over lands cultivated and uncultivated, plains, mountains, woods, pastures, waters, as well as over mills, streets and toll stations. The pope confirms and strengthens the grant, threatening those who oppose with the indignation of God almighty and of the Apostles Peter and Paul.
