May 21. Anagni. Pope Alexander IV writes to the prelates, clergy, and magistri and brothers of the Knights Templar, the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem and the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans and other clerics situated in the kingdoms of Jerusalem and Cyprus. A dispute has arisen in Acre between the commune of Genoa and the communes of Venice and Pisa (as copied out in full in the pope’s letter dated 1 June 1260, RRR 3302). The pope is entrusting the duty of peace-making to his papal legate, to whom the clergy are to provide advice and help.
