May 4. [60] Viterbo. Pope Eugenius III repeats Pope Innocent II’s letter of May 20 1140, taking Guido abbas and St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat under papal protection and confirming the gift by Bernardus episcopus Nazareth of the church of Ligio with parochial rights and the tithe of Thanis, for the benefit of the abbey’s hospital [hospitale], together with property in Sicily.

[60] This is dated 1145 and the first year of the pontificate, but Eugenius did not become pope until Nov. 18 1145. On the other hand, he was at Sutri on May 1146.
