Jan. 29. Pope Eugenius III writes to Raimundus prepositus Ierosolimitani xenodochii, confirming the papal protection extended by his predecessors Paschal II, Calixtus II, Honorius II and Innocent II to the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem and confirming its possession of properties. Eugenius specifically lists the following in the East: Becciafaba; Belforte; castellum Bouonis; Ramora; Giaffa; Mirabel; Treponti; Benguarnito; Poffavento; Calonthone; Calosia; Caco; obedientia de Cesaria; Altafiad; obedientia de Napoli; Delin; Cafamarda; casale de Monte Nayn; Tabaria; obedientia de Cayfa, de Acri et Gibessa; Cozetto; Syri; Sidon; Beirut; Tripoli; Mont Pèlerin; Arci; Coliat; Rafania with all the dependencies the Hospital has in the county of Tripoli; Stamborgo; the obedientiae of Antioch; Assa and Femia; Bersabee, just as the king and patriarch conceded. The Hospital’s freedom from excommunication and interdict is repeated, as are its burial rights, tithe privileges and the freedom of the brothers to elect their master [provisor atque prepositus].
