Summer. Patriarch Amalric of Jerusalem writes to Archbishop H. of Reims, describing the afflictions suffered by the eastern church and begging for help. Saladin invades the land every year. Nur ad-Din is seeking peace with the sultan of Iconium, the neighbour of Antioch, and is massing all the infidels from the region of Persia to Syria, with the intention of invading Antioch. The patriarch recommends the emissaries B. Liddensis episcopus and R. sancti Sepulcri subprior and he encourages efforts to reconcile the king of England and his sons.
