May 7. Besançon. Following his predecessors Honorius II, Innocent II, Celestine II and Lucius II, Pope Eugenius III takes Petrus prior and the canons of the Holy Sepulchre under papal protection and confirms their ownership of properties and rights, including all oblations to the Holy Sepulchre; oblations to the relic of the True Cross, except on Good Friday and when the patriarch has need of them; the tithes of the city of Jerusalem and lands around, except for those from the funda; and the church of St Peter in Jaffa. The canons may appeal to the Holy See.
