[76] Patriarch Fulcher and A[malricus], prior of the Holy Sepulchre, together with his convent, write to all their brothers and confratres [laici], wherever they may be, ordering them to relinquish all alms and possessions, gold, silver, cloth and horses, houses and villages [villae], fields and vineyards, possessions and churches, hospitals and castles [hospitalia et municipia] or anything else that belonged to the Hospital of St John before they fell into the Holy Sepulchre’s hands.

Comments:
[76] This letter and the next cannot date from before Fulcher of Angoulême’s fruitless trip to Italy to appeal to Pope Adrian IV about the dispute he and the Holy Sepulchre had with the Hospitallers of St John. See Jonathan Riley-Smith, The Knights Hospitaller in the Levant, pp. 22-4, 156-7. The patriarch, who had still been abroad on May 24 1156, died on 20 November 1157. William of Tyre, p. 838.
