Aug. 5. [114] Benevento. Pope Alexander III writes to P. prior and the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, who have complained that Patriarch Amalric of Jerusalem and King Amalric are intending to withdraw the church of Jaffa from subjection to the Holy Sepulchre and to raise it to the status of a bishopric. The pope reports that he has written to the patriarch ordering him, with the advice of the king and others, to recompense the canons of the Holy Sepulchre if the plan proceeds.
