Mar. 8. Lateran. At the request of the abbas Sancte Marie de Episcopia, Pope Honorius III takes the abbey under papal protection, establishing the religious life of the canons, who follow the rule of St Augustine as Premonstratensians. He confirms its possessions, specifically the place [locus] where it is situated and the casale called Prestia. The abbey is exempted from the payment of tithes on noval lands. It may receive postulants, is exempt from interdicts and may receive chrism from from the diocesan bishop. No one may build a chapel or oratory in its parrochia without episcopal assent. The laity can choose burial by the monks, who may recover tithes appropriated by laymen. The election of abbots should be free. No crime can be committed on the abbey’s property.
