text: Dec. 1-24. [275] Bohemond [IV], son of Prince Bohemond, per Dei gratiam princeps Antiochenus et comes Tripolitanus, makes a sealed grant to the commune of Genoa and all Genoese, represented by Lambertus Fornarius and Belmustus Lercarius, the consuls of Genoa. He gives the Genoese freedom to sell, buy, import and export money freely without the payment of duty [sine omni consuetudine et jure peccunie], except to those Genoese who are burgenses of the kingdom of Jerusalem, the county of Tripoli, the principality of Antioch or Cyprus. He gives the Genoese the right to a curia, but cases of homicide, sedition, rape, money, or physical force on a person or his goods ought to be judged in Bohemond’s curia. The Genoese may buy certain houses in Tripoli. The charter is issued on condition that the Genoese will swear to assist Bohemond in the defence of Tripoli should he require such aid. If an individual should refuse to swear such an oath they will be banished from his land. In return for the Genoese servitium of 3000 besants, 2 galeae and 300 men-at-arms, Bohemond, son of Prince Bohemond, per Dei gratiam princeps Antiochenus et comes Tripolitanus, makes a sealed grant to dominus Henricus comes Malte, represented by his faithful servants Albertus Gallina and Armannus vicecomes Henrici and other companions, who are faithful servants of the comes Maute. Bohemond gives the city of Genoa and all Genoese, except for those who are burgenses in the kingdom of Jerusalem, the county of Tripoli, Cyprus and the principality of Antioch, freedom to sell, buy, enter and leave Tripoli with safe-conduct. He gives them a free curia in Tripoli, reserving to his court homicide, rape, sedition and the use of force against a person or his goods or cash. He grants safe-conduct throughout his lands and he confirms all the rights the Genoese had possessed in Antioch in the time of his father Prince Bohemond.
