text: Dec. 25 1150 – Sept. 23 1151. Melisende, dei gratia Iherosolimorum regina, confirms an exchange made in the reign of her husband King Fulk between Johannes Patricius and the canons of the Holy Sepulchre. This involved the 2 casalia of Megina and Mezera being exchanged for the 2 casalia of Caphermelich and Anquina. It had been approved in Melisende’s presence by Babinus, from whom Johannes held the casalia in feodum, by Petrosus, the brother-in-law of Johannes, by Bruna, the wife of Johannes, and by their sons Thomas and Eustachius, on condition that if any challenge to the exchange arose the canons of the Holy Sepulchre would be obliged to restore the casalia to Johannes and his heirs. A challenge was made in King Fulk’s reign and the Holy Sepulchre appealed to the crown. Melisende therefore confirms the exchange under seal. Melisende, divina largiente clementia Iherosolimorum regina, with the consent of her sons King Baldwin III and Amalricus Ioppensium comes, renounces under seal her claims against the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, with respect to the villani of Bethsuric, namely Selmen filius Maadi; Habderahmen; Selim; Hasem; Nasen; Mekedem/Melpedem/Melpeclem; Seleemen; Sade; Brahin; Kannet; Nasser; Ariz; Mahmut; Zafer; Demsis; Resselem; Tameh; Rosec; Sahe; Salem filius Sade and the others, and the land in the casale. The canons are to have these as freely as they did in the time of Duke Godfrey [of Bouillon]. Melisende confirms the canons’ rights over the Suriani of Kalandria called Cosmas, Semhan/Seimahian, Samuel, Ihanna, Meferreg and Gerges, in exchange for a statio, which had belonged to Willelmus Bastardus, and the shares the canons had in 2 tables of money-changers [mensae nummulariorum] so that Melisende could construct a new ruga in Jerusalem. Melisende also renounces claims she had had on Suriani of Ramathes, called Bolferag, Jacob, Brahim and Ysaac, and on a vineyard that domna Geltidis, the wife of the lord Rohardus had left as an eleemosynary gift on her death. At the request of Hugo de Hybelino, of his brother Balduinus and of Aimery [of Limoges] patriarch of Antioch, Melisende, per dei gratiam Iherosolorum regina, confirms under seal the sale by Hugo to Melisende’s brothers, the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, of Vuetmoamel, Dersabeb and Corteis with their villani, and other properties, as contained in the charters of her sons King Baldwin III and Amalric Ascalonis comes. The properties are sold for 7,000 besants and are freed from all servicium dominium. Witnesses: Rainerius Sebastiensis episcopus; Gaufridus abbas Templi; Philippus Neapolitanus; Henricus, frater ejus; Rohardus de Neapoli and many others.
