text: Jun. 15. Raymond III dei gratia comes Tripoli, the son of Count Raymond II, records how Landulfus filius Johannis comitis Mauronis, Mansus Curiali, Lucas Florus, Leo Falangon, Boamundus filius Johannis Marchisani and other probi homines of Amalfi came to his court [curia] and in the presence of his homines, milites and burgenses complained [about the behaviour] of Homodei Mimol, his wife Sibilia, the daughter of Guillelmus Guersus, and Guillelmus Guersus himself in relation to certain houses [in Latakia] belonging to [the church of] St Andrew and the commune of Amalfi [commune Malfitanorum]. The Amalfitans demonstrated by witnesses that they had bought the houses, together with others in the funda. By the court’s judgement Homodei, his wife and father-in-law are to receive 600 Saracen besants. The houses are restored by Count Raymond and his court to St Andrew and the Amalfitans, who will not be liable for servitium. They are bounded by the house of the vicecomes, by houses that once belonged to Stefanus de Nimen and Oliverius pater Carbonelli, by the Tutius vicus in which many things are sold and by the road that runs to the sea towards the house of dominus Rainoardus. Landulfus and his companions, on behalf of St Andrew and Amalfi, give Count Raymond 1200 Saracen besants for his judgement and promise to maintain the count, his land and honour. Raymond III Tripolis comes, son of Count Raymond II and Hodierna comitissa, makes a sealed eleemosynary grant in return for the aid given by Josbertus Hospitalis Iherusalem magister, frater Arnaudus Lombardus and other brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem in securing his release from captivity and the help they have always given him. He confirms all the gifts made by his predecessors and his father Count Raymond II. He adds to them the surrender of the half of all spoil taken from the Sarraceni, which attached to his father’s standard [vexillum] and which his father had retained. This right of ‘vexillum’ is to be enjoyed by the Hospitallers. Raymond III, Dei gratia Tripolitanorum comes and a confrater of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, makes a sealed eleemosynary grant to the Hospital, frater Rogerus de Molendinis sancte domus magister and its brothers. He gives a stretch of territory from the foot of the mountains on which is situated the castle [castellum] of Melechin as far as the cavea of Memboa and from the cavea in a straight line to the river commonly called Fer and from the river stream back to Bochea, and from there by way of the borders of the territory of the castle [castellum] of Tuban back to the river again. He includes in the gift all his rights, including his lordship over the territory, with its casalia and inhabitants. He specifies, however, that the banks of the river should be shared by him and the Hospital, with any profits divided between them. On the side facing towards Tripoli they are bordered by the garden of S. Maria de Turri and by the garden that belonged to Bertranus Milonis.
