Pope Innocent II reminds F[ulcherius] Tyrensis archiepiscopus, R[aimundus] Tortose episcopus, Bishop G[erardus] Tripolitanus episcopus, H[ugo] Gibelent[inus] episcopus, B[alduinus] Barunt(inus] episcopus, B[ernardus] Sidoninensis episcopus and Johannes Acconensis episcopus of the demand previously made by Pope Honorius II to Archbishop William of Tyre. He reiterates that these prelates should recognize their subjection to Patriarch W[illiam] of Jerusalem.

text: Jan. 28. Anagni. Pope Gregory IX recalls the efforts made over 10 years by the abbas et conventus monasterii Bellimontis, of the Cistercian Order, to recover the casale of Peregus, occupied by W. miles de Riveto. In spite of the interventions of the late Cardinal Pelagius of Albano, the papal legate, and the papacy, the case has not been resolved due to the difficulty of finding judge delegates. The abbey now has possession of the casale, but, although W. de Riveto and nearly all his family are dead, the case is not resolved. The pope orders the bishop of Tripoli, the bishop of Tortosa [Antaradensis episcopus] and the cantor Antaradensis to re-examine it.

Pope Gregory IX writes to the patriarch of Antioch and bishop of Tortosa [Anteradensis], with specific reference to the patriarchate of Antioch, to the patriarch of Jerusalem as papal legate, with reference to all the bishops in the Latin East, and to the archbishop of Nicosia, with reference to all bishops in Cyprus. He forbids any Greek priest [sacerdos Grecus] to celebrate [the divine offices] unless he swears obedience to the Roman Church in the presence of his subjects and abjures heresy, especially the belief that Latins are heretics for celebrating [Mass] with unleavened bread.

text: Aug. 19. Anagni. At the request of the patriarch of Antioch, Pope Gregory IX orders the bishop of Tortosa [episcopus Anteradensis] to reinvestigate an old dispute, between the patriarch of Antioch on one side and the patriarch of Jerusalem, the archbishops of Tyre and Petra and the bishops of Sidon and Beirut on the other, over Antioch’s claims to jurisdiction over the provinces of Tyre and Petra [Petracensis archiepiscopatus] and especially the dioceses of Beirut and Sidon. This had already been judged by Pope Eugenius III.

The bishop of Tripoli has refused to confirm the election by the chapter of the ecclesia Sancti Michaelis Tripolitani ordinis Sancti Augustini of Johannes de Valentia as prior. Pope Innocent IV orders the bishop of Tortosa [episcopus Anteradensis] to put Johannes in possession of his office on papal authority.
