text: Dec. 25 1160 - Aug. 31 1161. In the presence of Patriarch Amalric, Petrus Tyrensis archiepiscopus, together with his chapter, makes an eleemosynary grant, giving dominus Nicholaus Sancti Sepulcri prior and the convent of the Holy Sepulchre the entire tithe of a casale called Derina, which the canons possess. Any appurtenance of the casale which the canons acquire will be freed from the tithe. Petrus also gives the tithe of an enclosed viridarium between the wall and forewall of Tyre [inter murum et ejus antemurale], with a berquilium. He confirms their possession of the church of St Mary, which was the first cathedral of Tyre, saving the dignity of the mother church. text: 1153 - Sept. 11 1161. [83] F[redericus] Ptholomaidis episcopus writes to the abbot and brothers of the abbey of Florennes and the chapter of the church of St John the Evangelist of Liège. He records how the canons of St John had asked him to send them relics of St John the Baptist, which had been recently discovered in Sebaste. In Jerusalem he met magister Bovo, who encouraged him to use the influence he had with the hierarchy in the Holy Land and with the king [Baldwin III] and his mother the queen [Melisende] and informed him that he wanted to present a relic of St John the Baptist to the abbey of Florennes. Fredericus and Bovo spent the night in Sebaste, celebrated Mass and persuaded the bishop to present them with a relic, which they divided between Florennes and St John of Liège. At the request of Iohannes Gothmannus and of his son Ancherius and out of fraternal love for the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, Baldwin, per gratiam dei in sancta Iherusalem Latinorum rex quartus, confirms under seal the sale to the canons of the Holy Sepulchre of the casalia of Bathaatep/Bethahatap, Derhassen, Derxerip, Culi and Uastinam Leonis for 1400 besants by Iohannes Gothmannus, with the agreement of his wife Amandala, his son Ancherius, Stephania the wife of Ancherius, and Helisabeth, the daughter of Iohannes and wife of Hugo dominus Cesariensis. The Holy Sepulchre will hold the casalia free of all servicium and dominium. The abbot of St Mary will pay a fourth part of the tithes of Ligio and Tannoc, will provide support, defined as food for men, barley for horses and beds [paleae] and candles, for 20 men and their horses, will send 4 rotula of wax [cereos IIII rotularum] and will assure the archbishop of the obedience of the chaplains [capellani] in the church of Ligio, so long as the rest of the tithes are drawn from lands worked by the monks themselves.
