comments: [45] Kedar (‘Jerusalem’s Two Montes Gaudii’, pp. 3-19) argues convincingly that until 1187 a high point north of Jerusalem was associated with Montjoie and that it was only with the closure of the road through central Palestine in the 13th century that St Samuel attracted the epithet. He admits, however, that it is possible that there may have been two Montes Gaudii in the 12th century.
