text: †Oct. 1 1102 – Dec. 2 1105. Hugo, abbot of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat, announces to all Christian people that, with the advice of Patriarch Evremar, Cardinal [Ode]risius [of Montecassino], King Baldwin I, and the whole church of Jerusalem, including the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, he has begun to rebuild the church of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat, which had been so destroyed by the pagans that a Benedictine community cannot be established. He founds a confraternity to help finance the reconstruction. He promises the confratres 2 Masses a week at the tomb of the Blessed Virgin Mary, one for the living, the other for the dead. A long list of confratres contains almost entirely the names of individuals residing in Norman southern Italy, the only possible settlers being Willelmus de Buris and Hugo de Puteolis. †Oct. 1 1102 – Dec. 2 1105. text: *Winter 1109/1110 - Apr. 6 1112. Hugo, abbot of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat, establishes a hospital next to the abbey for the poor and pilgrims, dedicated to St Saviour, funded by a tithe on all St Mary’s goods and supported by a confraternity, the members of which share in the abbey’s prayers and merits. It will feed 13 poor persons on every Feastday of the Apostles and whenever a confrater dies. Another poor person will be fed each day for thirteen days after such a death and on the anniversary each year. Each confrater will provide an eleemosynary subscription of 13 besants a year. The members include domnus Balduinus rex primus; Bernardus episcopus de Nazareth; Guillelmus de Buris; Guido de Miliaco; Goscelinus domnus de Tiberiade; domnus Balianus; and many others. *Winter 1109/1110 - Apr. 6 1112.
