Pope Calixtus II writes to Patriarch Warmund of Jerusalem regarding the cantor [Ansellus] [34] and succentor of the Holy Sepulchre, who, as a result of some dispute, are living like laymen in their houses and are ordering others to replace them in the performance of the Divine Office. They are to return to the community or the pope will expel them. The other brothers should agree how to dispose of their offices. Jul. 6. Lateran. text: Jul. 6. Lateran. Pope Calixtus II confirms for Gerardus, prior, and his brothers in the church of the Holy Sepulchre the Rule of life they have adopted. He confirms their possessions and the donations made to them: half of all oblations offered to the Holy Sepulchre or the relic of the True Cross; the tithes of the city of Jerusalem and the places nearby, except for the tithes of the funda and the half of a benefice handed by the king to the church of Bethlehem; indeed whatever the late Patriarch Arnulf himself confirmed. The pope also confirms the grants Patriarch Arnulf made of the church of St Peter in Jaffa and the church of Sanctus Lazarus [in Bethany]. Jul. 6. Lateran.
