text: Jul. 31. Anagni. Pope Gregory IX has heard that the prince of Antioch and other Latins have been handing lands to Greeks, Armenians and others, who do not pay tithes, receiving, in place of tithes, a due that is commonly called monet. Latins, moreover, are claiming exemption from tithes on vineyards, gardens and lands tilled at their own expense and others, both Latin and Greek, are refusing to pay tithes at all. The pope orders the archbishop of Tyre and the bishops of Acre and Tortosa [Anteradensis episcopus] to enforce the payment of tithes.

text: Aug. 19. Anagni. At the request of the patriarch of Antioch, Pope Gregory IX orders the bishop of Tortosa [episcopus Anteradensis] to reinvestigate an old dispute, between the patriarch of Antioch on one side and the patriarch of Jerusalem, the archbishops of Tyre and Petra and the bishops of Sidon and Beirut on the other, over Antioch’s claims to jurisdiction over the provinces of Tyre and Petra [Petracensis archiepiscopatus] and especially the dioceses of Beirut and Sidon. This had already been judged by Pope Eugenius III.

text: Oct. 9. Anagni. Odo de Monbeliardo regni Ierosolimitani comestabulus had appealed to the Holy See. The bishop of Paphos had demanded tithes of the poll tax [capitatio] levied on the casale of Tarsis in his diocese. Odo refused on the grounds that the late electi of Nicosia and Paphos, at that time papal legates, had decreed, with the agreement of King Aimery of Cyprus, that such a tithe should not be paid in Cyprus, which would follow the practice of the patriarchate of Jerusalem in this respect. This decision was confirmed by the Apostolic See. The bishop of Paphos had threatened Odo with excommunication. Pope Gregory IX orders the bishop of Tripoli to investigate the case and make a judgement.
