The bishop of Limassol has informed Pope Gregory IX that in the churches of Cyprus there is very little for treasurers [thesaurarii] to do and has asked that when a vacancy occurs a treasurer, who enjoys 1 and a half prebends, should be replaced by 2 canons, who would each have a full prebend, thus increasing the number of those serving the church. Concerned for the safety of the Holy Land and after consulting the patriarchs of Constantinople, Antioch and Jerusalem and many other prelates, who were visiting the Holy See, and in the presence of Frederick, Romanorum imperator semper augustus, Ierusalem et Sicilie rex, he is sending the archbishop of Ravenna as papal legate to the East to enforce the peace between the emperor and the barones of Jerusalem and citizens of Acre negotiated by the patriarch of Antioch and the magister of the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans.
