text: c. Dec. 1 – 24. [43] When Petrus Sancti Lazari, a confrater [frater] of the church of the Holy Sepulchre, died, his daughter, who was a minor, and her mother asked to be able to hold the feodum of Sancti Lazari for their sustenance until the daughter should marry, after which the service owed for the fief would be resumed. When the daughter reached marriageable age the canons wanted to marry her to their famulus Petrus, whom they had brought up [noster nutritus]. The mother was vehemently opposed although she did not want to lose the fief in her lifetime. Brought with her mother, step-father [victricus], male protectors [patrini] and other lay people before Patriarch Stephen and the canons in chapter, the daughter stated that she would rather beg than marry against her mother’s will. She returned the fief to the canons on condition that her mother and step-father should continue to enjoy it for their lives. W[illelmus], third prior of the church of the Holy Sepulchre, records the canons’ agreement and their decision to provide for the son of the mother and her husband after their death. Witnesses: Anselmus cantor; Ato; Gislebertus; Petrus Bernardi; Gaudencius; Petrus elemosinarius; Aimericus; Gaufridus Acus; Petrus de Vendosme; Berengarius Parvus. comments: [43] Bresc-Bautier dated this charter Dec 25 1128 – Aug 31 1129 (to accord with the indiction number), but Peter of St Lazarus was still alive on Oct. 19, when he witnessed a deed. Even the following December may be too early a date for this charter, if one allows for the fact that his widow had already remarried.

text: Dec. 25 1129 – Jun. 12 1130. Willelmus prior sancti Sepulcri, in the presence and with the approval of Patriarch Stephen and with the agreement of his entire chapter, seals an agreement with St Mary of the Valley of Jehosaphat, represented by Gelduinus abbas. He surrenders an oven in that part of Jerusalem called the Iudearia to St Mary, renouncing all disputes over it. He remits the tithe owed on land called Plata petra, by the road that leads to the river. He grants the tithe of a casale called Darchiboam. He renounces all other claims made against St Mary. Witnesses: of the priests, Petrus Barchinonensis subprior; Ansellus precentor; Gislebertus; Petrus Bernardi; Petrus Calvus; Gosbertus; Balduinus; Hugo prepositus; of the deacons, Guido; Radulfus; Wulgrinus; Richardus; of the subdeacons, Gyraldus; Galterius; Moyses; of other churchmen, Willelmus archiepiscopus Tyri; Gaudentius archiepiscopus Cᶒsariensis; Anselmus Bethleemita episcopus; Richardus Sanctᶒ Mariᶒ latinᶒ abbas; Arnaldus prior Montis Syon; Henricus prior Montis Oliveti: of lay persons, rex Balduinus; Willelmus dapifer Templi; Hugo comes Trecensis; Balduinus de Sancto Abraham; Rohardus; Jofridus de Parenteo; Holricus vicecomes Neapolitanus.
