text: Jul. 25. Acre. Baldwin, per gratiam dei in sancta Iherusalem rex quartus, resolves a dispute between himself and the canons of the Holy Sepulchre over Suriani. He confirms under seal that they are subject to the Holy Sepulchre. The Suriani are listed as follows. text: Jul. 26. Acre. Baldwin per gratiam dei in sancta Iherusalem Latinorum rex quartus makes an eleemosynary grant, repeating for the Holy Sepulchre his earlier confirmations. Godfrey dux [of Bouillon] gave 21 casalia: Ainquinę, Armotię, Kefreachab, Kefredil, Bubil, Hubin, Aram, Kalendię, Betdigge, Birra, Subahiet, Ataraberet, Vrniet, Zenu, Helmule, Beittelamus, Aineseins, Barithmeta, Beitumen, Beitfuteire and Bethsurie; and all the ovens in Jerusalem, except for 2 belonging to the Hospital of St John and 1 belonging to St Mary of the Latins. King Baldwin I gave villani and their families at Sanctus Lazarus [Bethany] and the 4 casalia above Sanctus Lazarus of Benehatię, Benehabeth, Ragabani and Roma; 1000 modii of wheat each year in the territory of Nablus; half of that property which the king gave the Holy Sepulchre in the exchange relating to the bishopric of Bethlehem. King Baldwin II gave a casale called Derina, situated in the territory of Tyre close to the great spring [fons] that feeds the aqueduct. The territory of the casale, situated on the hillside, comprised 4 carrucates [quantum terrę quatuor paria boum de anno in annum excolere possunt]. He excluded from the confirmation another unnamed casale, if indeed it had been subtracted from the territory of the Holy Sepulchre. King Baldwin II also gave a garden situated between the sea wall and sea forewall of the city; a casale named Cafermelec in the territory of Nablus; half of the casale of Fieisse now called Casale Sancti Sepulchri, which was given by Eustachius Granerius, and all the land that Galterius, the son of Eustachius gave around the same casale, beyond the River [Jordan] as far as the designated boundaries that are recognized today. With the agreement of Melisende, King Baldwin III’s mother, and his brother Amalricus, King Fulk gave the casale of Thecua in exchange for Sanctus Lazarus in Bethania. King Fulk confirmed the gift by Lambertus Alfus of 2 carrucate terrę plenarie situated in the territory of the casale of Mimas; the gift of Guillelmus de Buris of 2 casalia called Gebul and Helchar with their lands and the use of their fisheries [piscariae] for 8 days each year, the angaria [of his own fisherman] for one day a year and the use of a boat [navis] in the way specified by Guilelmus de Buris; houses, within the walls of the city of Jerusalem, occupied by Bernardus canonicus, Eurardus canonicus, alterius Eurardus canonicus, Mainardus, Garsio, Galterius Lo Tornaor, Bernardus Bursarius, Herluinus, Mabilia, Rogerius de Sancto Lazaro, a confrater of the canons, and the statio of Guillelmus Bastardus together with the share that the same Guillelmus had in the tables of the money changers [in mensis nummulariorum] - this confirmation was an eleemosynary grant; a house at Acre given by Lambertus Als and Agnes his wife on condition that the king would not lose servicium if it was sold or disposed of in any way. Among other confirmations, there were 3 casalia called Capharuth, Gith and Porphiria, which Rogerius Liddensis episcopus gave out of the possessions of [the church of] Sanctus Georgius [Lydda], and a fourth casale called Kefrescilta, which, together with half the tithes of harvests and a remission of all other tithes relating to the aforesaid casalia, were given by Rogerius [Liddensis episcopus] in exchange for the recognition of his right to the tithes of Castellum Arnaldi and of a casale of the Hospital of St John called Bulbul; an exchange made between the canons of the Holy Sepulchre and Iohannes Patricius of 2 casalia, called Caphermelich and Ainquina, for 2 of the casalia of Iohannes, called Megina and Mezera. King Baldwin III also confirmed the resolution of the disputes between himself and the canons over Suriani and between Queen Melisende and the canons over the boundaries of Bethsuri; the casalia of Bethel, Odemamel, Dehyrsabeth, Corteis, Deirmusim and Huetdebes with their villani, which the canons bought from Hugo de Hybelino; Patriarch Arnulf’s concession of half of the oblations of the faithful to the Holy Sepulchre; two-thirds of candle money; all oblations to the relic of the True Cross, which was in the canons’ custody, on all days except Good Friday and those occasions when the patriarch needed to carry the relic with him; the tithes of the whole of the city of Jerusalem and its environs, except for those from funda; half the beneficium King Baldwin I gave in an exchange relating to the bishopric of Bethlehem; the church of St Peter in Jaffa, conceded by the patriarch to the canons. At the request of Iohannes Gothmannus and of his son Ancherius and out of fraternal love for the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, Baldwin, per gratiam dei in sancta Iherusalem Latinorum rex quartus, confirms under seal the sale to the canons of the Holy Sepulchre of the casalia of Bathaatep/Bethahatap, Derhassen, Derxerip, Culi and Uastinam Leonis for 1400 besants by Iohannes Gothmannus, with the agreement of his wife Amandala, his son Ancherius, Stephania the wife of Ancherius, and Helisabeth, the daughter of Iohannes and wife of Hugo dominus Cesariensis. The Holy Sepulchre will hold the casalia free of all servicium and dominium.
