text: Jun. 27. Jerusalem. Baldwin, per gratiam dei in sancta Iherusalem Latinorum rex quartus, with the assent of Queen Melisende his mother and Amalricus comes Ascalonitanus his brother, confirms as a sealed eleemosynary grant the exchange made in the time of his father Fulk rex Iherosolimorum illustris, in which Johannes Patricius recorded that he had exchanged 2 of his casalia, called Megina and Mezera, for 2 casalia, called Caphermelich and Anquina, which belonged to the Holy Sepulchre. He made this exchange with the consent of Babinus from whom Johannes held his feodum and in the presence of King Baldwin and Queen Melisende. The exchange made by Johannes had been approved by his relation [cognatus] Petrosus, his wife Bruna, and his sons Thomas and Eustachius. A condition of the exchange was that if Johannes or his heirs infringed the rights of the Holy Sepulchre, such damage would be made good. Since disputes had arisen in the reign of King Fulk over the exchange, its terms are now confirmed. Witnesses: Andreas de Monte Barro magister Templi; Humfredus constabularius; Philippus Neapolitanus; Guido Francigena; Hugo de Hybelino; Odo de Sancto Amando; Ysaac castellanus turris David; Guillelmus de Barra; Galuannus de Rochia; Robertus Asinus; Thomas de Satorono. Baldwin, per gratiam dei in sancta Iherusalem Latinorum rex quartus, confirms under seal the renunciation made by his mother Queen Melisende, with the consent of his brother Amalricus comes Ascalonitanus, of her claims against the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, with respect to the villani of Bethsuric, namely Selmen filius Maadi; Habderahmen; Selim; Hasem; Nasen; Mekedem; Seleemen; Sade; Brahin; Kannet; Nasser; Ariz; Mahmut; Zafer; Demsis; Resselem; Tameh; Rosech; Sahe; Salem filius Sade and others, and the land in the casale. The canons were to have these as freely as they did in the time of Duke Godfrey [of Bouillon]. Melisende confirmed the canons’ rights over the Suriani of Calandria called Cosmas, Semhan, Samuel, Ihanna, Meferreg and Gerges, in exchange for a statio, which had belonged to Willelmus Bastardus, and the shares the canons had in 2 tables of money-changers [mensae nummulariorum], so that Melisende could construct a new ruga in Jerusalem. Melisende also renounced claims she had had on Suriani of Ramathes, called Bolferag, Jacob, Brahim and Ysaac, and on a vineyard that domna Gislia, the wife of Rohardus, had left as an eleemosynary grant on her death. text: c.1155. Patriarch F[ulcher] of Jerusalem, A. ecclesiae sancti sepulcri prior and the entire convent of the Holy Sepulchre address a sealed general letter to all Christians, prelates and faithful, rich and poor. Because many who wish or have vowed to visit Jerusalem are prevented from doing so through illness, poverty and so on, they offer this consolation. Having collected relics from the sites of Christ’s Nativity and nurture in Bethlehem, his abandonment in the Temple, his capture in Gethsemane, his Passion on Calvary, his glorious tomb in the Holy Sepulchre, his Ascension on the Mount of Olives, the death of the Blessed Virgin Mary on Mount Sion and her burial in the Valley of Jehoshaphat, they have incorporated them in a crucifix, dedicated to the blood of Christ, which is to be brought to the West by Conradus canonicus, the patriarch’s representative, promising those of the faithful incapable of the journey who venerate it absolution of their vows and the same indulgence they would have received had they been to Jerusalem.

text: May 24 – Dec. 24. In the absence of Patriarch Fulcher of Jerusalem, who had been on a journey to Rome, Aimericus, the prior of the Mount of Olives and his canons had prevented the canons of the Holy Sepulchre from holding their customary stational service at the church of the Mount of Olives during the Ascension procession, on the grounds that they could only use the church when the patriarch was present, since it had equal status with the Holy Sepulchre. On his return, the canons of the Holy Sepulchre brought a complaint against the canons of the Mount of Olives to a synod, at which were present Patriarch Fulcher himself and P[etrus] archiepiscopus Tyrensis, B[alduinus] archiepiscopus Cesariensis, L[etardus] archiepiscopus Nazarenusi, R[adulfus] episcopus Bethleemitę, C[onstantinus] episcopus Liddensis, R[ainerius] episcopus Sebastensis, F[redericus] episcopus Achonensis, A[rbertus] episcopus Tyberiadensis, A[dam] episcopus Paneadensis, A[malricus] episcopus Sydoniensis, M[ainardus] episcopus Berithensis, G[aufridus] abbas Templi Domini, P. abbas Sanctę Marię Josaphat, A[milius] abbas Sanctę Marię Latinę, R. abbas Sancti Samuhelis, H[erbertus] abbas Sancti Abacuc, E[ngerannus] prior Montis Syon, H[ugo] prior Templi Domini, R[adulfus] prior Sebasteni. The synod found for the Holy Sepulchre and judged that the canons of the Mount of Olives should come barefooted to the Holy Sepulchre. So the prior [Aimericus] with his canons - Guido, Bonicius, Johannes Berruier, Durandus, Odo and Zacharias – accompanied as an act of humility and devotion by P[etrus] archiepiscopus Tyrensis, A[dam] episcopus Paneadensis and M[ainardus] episcopus Berithensis, came to make satisfaction. It was recorded by all present, together with the patriarch, that since the expulsion of the Muslims [Sarraceni] the Holy Sepulchre had the right to process to any church inside or outside Jerusalem on the following feasts: the Purification to the Templum Domini, the Ascension to the Mount of Olives, Pentecost to Mount Sion and the Assumption to St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat. In these churches the convent of the Holy Sepulchre had primacy and could hold stational services. If the patriarch was absent, the prior of the Holy Sepulchre would sing Mass and preach to the people.
