Writing to Petrus prior and the canons of the Holy Sepulchre, Pope Celestine II notes that King Fulk of Jerusalem and Queen Melisende wished to establish a monastery for professed men or women in the church of Sanctus Lazarus at Bethania and were supported in their appeal to the Holy See by Patriarch William of Jerusalem and his hierarchy. Pope Celestine assents to this and confirms the gift to the Holy Sepulchre of the casale of Thecua by King Fulk in exchange for casalia surrendered by the canons to provide a living for the community at St Lazarus.

Petrus Dominici Sepulcri prior records that when an inhabitant of Mahumeria, a woman called Odierda, became a consoror of the Holy Sepulchre, she gave the community a vineyard. When she died her son Andreas held on to it for a long time against the canons’ will. Robertus Nazarenus archiepiscopus, Fulcherius Tyrensis archiepiscopus, Bernardus Sydoniensis episcopus, Rorgo Ptolomaidensis episcopus, Helias of Tiberiadensis episcopus, Rogerius Ramathensis episcopus and others judged that the fruits of the vineyard should be enjoyed by the canons, but the canons, moved by charity, have remitted the fruits to Andreas and have conceded the vineyard to him for life on condition that they receive a third of the harvest and the tithe, and the vineyard itself on his death. Patriarch William of Jerusalem records under seal his judgement on a long-standing dispute between the church of the Holy Sepulchre, represented by Petrus Dominici Sepulcri prior, and the abbey of Mt Tabor, represented by Pons abbas, over the tithes of Casale Sancti Egidii. The Holy Sepulchre and Mt Tabor will each receive half the tithes of Casale Sancti Egidii, of 2 other casalia, called Turbasaim and Dere, and of 3 vineyards. In recognition of this agreement Mt Tabor will send the Holy Sepulchre a rotula of wax each year on 15 July [in festivitate Jherusalem]. He refers to their right to live under the Augustinian Rule, takes them under papal protection and lists the following properties: in the bishopric of Bethlehem the casale of Thecua, given by King Fulk; the castle [castrum] of Mahumeria with its church; in the diocese of Caesarea castrum Feniculi with its church; in the city of Jaffa the church of St Peter; in the city of Tyre the church of Sancta Maria antiqua sedes; the casale of Sancta Erina in the diocese of Tyre; the castle [castrum] of Gith; in the diocese of Tripoli the church of the Holy Sepulchre on Mont Pèlerin, the church of Sanctus Georgius in Montanis and the villa called Biuora, given in exchange for Megina; together with properties in southern Italy and Provence.
