He gives the church of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat a casale called Aschar, situated close by Nablus. The casale is bounded by a valley next to a deserted village/waste land [gastina] called Thera and runs as far as a great valley that leads to Thopas. Among the casale’s dependencies are a gastinula called Fondoch, a market building [funda] in the old city of Sichar, and a land called Dorsum asini, which is near [contra] the casale of Bethphorum. Pope Paschal II confirms for Hvgo abbas and the abbey of St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat all the gifts made by Godfrey [dux] and Baldwin [Ierosolimitanus rex] and others, and whatever the abbey will receive through the concessions of pontiffs, the liberality of princes and the oblations of the faithful. It will pay no tithes on the products of its own labour. It is free of episcopal procurations in Jerusalem. It can enjoy revenues from infidel peasants [rustici infideles]. Anyone can be buried in its cemetery. It can receive alms on behalf of those who die. It can enjoy parochial rights in its parishes. It can have relations with excommunicates. Rotbertus filius Fulcoii gave a casale called Merdic. Rotbertus de Vizpont gave a casale called Burio. Rotbertus de Sancto Loth gave an annual rent of 500 librae of fish from his fishery [piscaria] called Agrest. W. Capreolus gave 200 librae of fish each year and 100 mecuchia of salt and a casale called Sanctus Paulus and 2 aratra of land in a casale called Oschi. Rotbertus de Lanat gave a casale called Anadi ... Bonabulus gave another casale called….. Roger [of Salerno] gave an annual rent of 500 eels and confirms the gift of a casale close to [apud] Gibellum made by the wife of his uncle Tancred.
