At the request of the patriarch of Antioch, Pope Gregory IX orders the bishop of Tortosa [episcopus Anteradensis] to reinvestigate an old dispute, between the patriarch of Antioch on one side and the patriarch of Jerusalem, the archbishops of Tyre and Petra and the bishops of Sidon and Beirut on the other, over Antioch’s claims to jurisdiction over the provinces of Tyre and Petra [Petracensis archiepiscopatus] and especially the dioceses of Beirut and Sidon.
