text: May 1-5. Acre. With the agreement of domna Ysabella regis Amalrici filia, Henricus comes Trecensium records an agreement made with the Pisans. He concedes to them freedom to enter and leave through the catena of Acre without the payment of any dues [exactio], and all the liberties and possessions they held in Tyre, Acre and Jaffa during the reign of King Amalric, together with the platea that King Baldwin [IV] gave them. If there are other rights described in charters, Henricus will give them their due in his curia when the city of Jerusalem is restored to the Christians. No more than 30 Pisans should be resident in Tyre during the year from 1 May without his permission. The consuls of the Pisans will swear loyalty on behalf of all Pisans coming to the land. If a Pisan holds a burgesia of Henricus, he should surrender it and only hold property as other Pisans do. If a Pisan wishes to hold a burgesia, he should be subject to the same terms as other burgenses [of the kingdom]. Bohemond, Dei gratia princeps Antiochie, the son of Prince Raymond, places on record under seal that Simon Foglianelli consul Pisanorum Acconis and his companions Petrus iudex and Federicus Mochi, legati of the commune of Pisa, came into his presence and asked him, in the name of all Pisans, to confirm the charter [privilegium] that his mother Constantia had granted to Buctaccius the legatus of the Pisans and also to confirm his own charter [privilegium], which he had granted in Tyre to all Pisans. With the agreement of his wife Ysabella principissa, Bohemond therefore confirms both charters, assuring the Pisans that their rights will not be challenged by any baiulus or pauctonarius. He adds that he grants the Pisans that on all the goods for sale after importation [de commercio intrando] the duty is to be 3 per cent; after weighing [de quirato commercii] 2 per cent; on passage through the principality [de passagio], half, and on all other duties owed by Latins, half; on the personal tax levied on Pisans at the pons Ferri half duty [directura]; half of the tertianaria at the port of Sanctus Symon; half of ancoragium; half of the duty on wine, that is to say the payment of 1 denarius in every besant; in relation to the caban commercii, 3 unciae on every 100 ritulis. He frees them from the payment of all dues [diritura] on merchandise when they enter or leave Botronum by land or sea, except for the payment of 1 marzapanus that ought to be paid by every boat [lignum] carrying wheat for sale in the land of Botronum, and except for those Pisans who are resident in the land of Tripoli and those who are the homines of Plebanus in the land of Botronum. text: Apr. 7. Antioch. With the agreement of his wife domina Heluisa principissa and his uncle King Leon of Armenia, at the request of his brother-in-law [sororius] King Hugh of Cyprus, and with the advice of his homines, Raymond Rupen, Dei gratia princeps Antiochie, the son of Prince Raymond, makes a sealed confimation to the Pisan commune and all Pisans. He confirms their possessions and rights in the principality of Antioch, including all gifts made by his grandfather Prince Bohemond of Antioch and Bohemond’s mother Princess Constantia. He confirms the Pisans’ right to have a court with jurisdiction over Pisans in all cases except theft, homicide and treason against Raymond Rupen’s person, which are reserved to his court. He grants full rights to buy and sell, enter and leave free from the payment of all dues relating to buying and selling [omnibus drecturis cabani totius passagii et quirati et commercii] imposed by his baiuli, pautonarii, secretarii and others, with the exception of those of the port of Sanctus Symeon, where the Pisans should pay half passagium, half tercenaria portus and half ancoragium, and half of all other dues, but are freed in the port from paying tax on purchases and sales relating to the commercium of Antioch. Acre. - Wishing to reward the Pisans for their fidelity and services, Frederick, dei gratia Romanorum imperator semper augustus, Ierusalem et Sicilie rex, records under seal that Malpillus, Pipinus and Buitus, the consules of the Pisans in Acre, have shown him evidence of the Pisan contribution to the preservation of the kingdom of Jerusalem. He therefore confirms the full liberty the Pisans enjoy in Acre to import and export horses and other mounts. No baiulus appointed by Frederick or his heirs is to make an special prohibition, unless it is one that is generally inposed. The Pisans are to enjoy all their rights in the kingdom of Jerusalem and Frederick orders his baiuli in Tyre and Jaffa to maintain the Pisans in all their rights and possessions.
