The canons in return renounce their claim for a rent of 200 besants taken from the revenues [in redditu] of Nablus. In the presence of Patriarch Stephen [of Chartres] of Jerusalem and the witnesses listed below, the king orders Paganus his cancellarius to draw up the charter and attach his lead seal. text: Jul. 27 1128 – Jun. 2 1129. Because the heavy duties levied in the port of Acre gravely weigh down pilgrims, Baldwin, dei gratia rex Iherusalem Latinorum secundus, makes an eleemosynary grant at the request of Patriarch Stephen. He frees the pilgrims coming to Palestine from the payment of any duty [datio census] on cloth or on all other goods they bring with them up to the value of 40 besants. If the pilgrims assure the custodes portus that the goods are for their own use, no tax will be levied. If necessity forces the pilgrims to sell any surplus in the port, they should pay what is customary and right. Jul. 27 1128 – Jun. 2 1129. King Baldwin II gives the Pisans in Tyre 5 houses in the ruga next to the port of Tyre free of rent [tributum vel redditum] and freedom from taxes on their shipping and goods in the port, although pilgrims and other men (who are not Pisan merchants) will not be exempt. Baldwin, dei gratia rex Hierusalem Latinorum secundus, makes a sealed eleemosynary grant, giving St Mary of the Valley of Jehoshaphat, Gelduinus abbas and his successors a casale called Bestella/Befella in the territory of Tyre. The king also gives another casale called Sardanas which is close to [ante] the city of Tyre, except for part of the land between the mountain and the king’s viridarium, which he retains for his own use. He orders Paganus his cancellarius to seal the charter with his lead seal.Witnesses: Milissenda filia regis et regni Ierosolimitani haeres; Hugo Ioppe dominus; Ansellus de Bria; Barianus Iope constabularius; Ioannes camerarius; Hulricus Neapolis vicecomes; Bernardus Vaccarius; Hemelinus vicecancellarius, who wrote the charter. He confirms under his seal everything given in the reigns of his predecessors to the Hospital. He confirms those gifts made during his reign, specifying the following. In the territory of Jerusalem, Gosfridus de Parentea gave 4 partes terre at a place called Beccafaba. Gosfridus also gave a garden with cisterns next to the Tower of David, with roads on either side, one of which runs to Bethlehem. Adam de Ramis gave a house with a cistern inside, situated in front of the house of Guido de Miliaco and next to the Gate of the Temple, from where the road goes to the Valley of Jehoshaphat. Witnesses of Adam’s gift were: Aschetinus vicecomes; Vgo de Ramis; Gosfridus de Acula; Alfanus; Siherius de Beritto; Porcellus; Rancoldus de Ponzo. Alanus Boccerius gave a house in Jerusalem, before the witnesses: Aschetinus vicecomes; Guerricus; Hanricus Burgundio. Bernardus de Tolosia and his wife Rufa gave a house in Jerusalem situated before the church of St Martin. Alfanus gave himself and all his property and houses in the piazza of the money-changers [platea nummulariorum] in the presence of the witnesses: Paganus Cesariensis electus, olim cancellarius tantum; Vgo comes Trescensis; Gosfridus de Parentea; Aschetinus vicecomes; Rodulfus camerarius; Rainaldus de Ponzo; Gosfridus Acula; Siherius de Beritto; Porcellus. He specifies: in the territory of Jerusalem 2 parts of the casale of Bethsan; the tithes of the gardens and mills of Siloam; the lands and vineyards belonging to the abbey in the same territory, together with the tithe, conceded to the abbey by Willelmus prior Sancti Sepulcri and the canons of the Holy Sepulchre to ensure peace, of 2 carrucae, one of which had belonged to Guido de Miliaco, the other to Balianus Joppensis; in the territory of Nablus the tithe of the 2 casalia of Aschar and Betheri; in the territory of Acre the tithe of the casale called Cassara and of 4 carrucae of land and olive trees belonging to the monks in the casale of Hubertus de Paceo; half the tithe of Balianus at Betheri and of the land of Beroaldus which is situated on the hillside; and all the tithe of the 3 casalia of Balduinus Ramatensis called Gemail, Serra and Bethbezim and of the 2 casalia called Taret and Tarfin, which used to belong to Gaufredus de Turri.
