text: Oct 1 1102 – Mar. 24 1103. In the reign of Baldwin, rex inclitus et christianissimus regnum Babiloniᶒ atque Asiᶒ disponens, Evremar, who has succeeded to the patriarchate, rules on the prebends of the canons of the church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem. Each canon is to be provided with 150 besants a year. This sum will be received by the cantor, the primicherius or magister scholasticus, the treasurer and sacristan, over and above any other prebend customarily enjoyed by them. King Baldwin has provided the succentor with 150 besants and after the death of Arnulfus archidiaconus, who has been funding the subdeacon with 100 besants a year, the patriarch will provide the same sum for the subdeacon. The patriarch gives the canons 2 altars – the high altar in the choir by which is the patriarchal cathedra, and the parochial altar, immediately behind the Tomb [ad capud Sepulcri], although the church ornaments on the altars will remain the property of the church. All offerings made during Mass, even when celebrated by the patriarch or another bishop, will be enjoyed by the canons. This gift does not apply to offerings made outside the church of the Holy Sepulchre. The patriarch also gives the canons the church of St Peter Major at Jaffa, together with its cemetery and all customs belonging to the metropolitan church. The patriarch grants the canons the privilege of translating clergy to benefices in churches in the kingdom of Jerusalem. Oct 1 1102 – Mar. 24 1103. text: Jul. 29. Lateran. Pope Paschal II confirms Giraldus Montis Thabor archiepiscopus in his metropolitan rights over all Galilee and Tiberias. He grants him the right to wear the pallium, and specifies the feasts and occasions on which it should be worn. He takes the abbey of Mt Tabor under papal protection. He confirms the abbey’s possessions granted by Godfrey of Bouillon and his successor King Baldwin I. He lists the casalia that ought to belong to the abbey: Boria ad pedem Montis Thabor; Damia; Saronia; Cafarseth/Capharsech; Lubia; Sysara/Sisara; Casta; Capharkemen/Capharkeme; Messa; Meschia; Mangana; Capharmaza; Caphartamara/Cafartamara; Endor; Malufh/Maluph; Cara; Nurith; Sulem; Elfule; Eumesara; Naim; Erbeth/Irbeth; Caimun/Cannun; Capharsuma in the territory of Acre; Desurchain in the territory of Tyre; Alme ad turonem Sapheth; Alme; Neeme in terra Belinas; in terra Sueth: Auara, Zaar, Elleeram, Betaras, Arthe, Taletap, Capharsalia; in terra de Grosso villano: Aingene, Seecip, Eusenia, Sesia; Elgor; Zepheria in terra Auram Ayn; in terra de Bettaniᶒ/Bethanie, Zera, Alcotaim/Alcotain, Menan, Hecdix. text: Dec. 25 1102 – Dec. 24 1103. Raymond, comes Tholosanus vel gratia Dei Tripolitanus, makes an eleemosynary grant [including the prayer that his castle be finished]. He gives the recently built church [constructa ecclesia] in Jerusalem of St Mary of the Latins land lying just outside [in suburbio] the new castle of Mont Pèlerin on which to erect a church in honour of St Mary. He had promised this to Petrus Olivarus before he had gone to Tortosa. The land stretches from the church on the site of the hospitale [the hospital of St John of Jerusalem] as far as the bridge and the river. He hands this over to the monk Stephanus, with the rights to everything a church ought legally to have, including a cemetery, a presbytery and the power to receive oblations. He also gives additional land and a mill that adjoins it, together with the field in which the mill is situated. This land near the church is estimated to equal 2 carrucates [quantum possit sufficere duobus paribus boum ad arandum per singula et opportuna tempora]. comments: [14] William of Tyre (pp. 486-7) wrote that the king promised the Genoese a third part of the revenues and the right to a vicus with full jursidiction in every city they helped conquer. A subject of debate is whether the promise was made or whether William had seen a Genoese forgery.
