Guillelmus de Marreclea and his wife Beatrix, with the consent of his father Guillelmus Rainuardi and his brothers Rainuardus and Raimundus, sells Gibertus Hospitalis magister and all the brothers of the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem a castle [castellum] called Eixserc and the vallis de Luchen, together with a casale called Nubia, situated in territorio Tortosano, for 1400 besants and a further sum of 60 besants which Gibertus has given Beatrix. Guillelmus and Beatrix wish this sale to be treated as if it was an eleemosynary gift. Witnesses: -Oliverius de Nephin; Gasto de Nephin; Bertrannus de Insula; Petrus Gombaldus. Raymond III comes Tripolitanus makes a sealed eleemosynary grant to the Hospital, confirming the sale, but adding that the casale of Nubia must remain a fief owing service [in feodo et servitio suo]. text: Dec. 25 1162 - Mar. 1 1163 Tyre. Petrus Tyrensis archiepiscopus, together with his chapter, confirms his eleemosynary grant to domnus Nicholaus, prior, and the convent of the Holy Sepulchre. This consisted of the entire tithe of a casale called Derina, which the canons possessed. Any dependency of the casale which the canons acquire would be freed from the tithe. Petrus also gave the tithe of an enclosed viridarium between the wall and forewall of Tyre [inter murum et ejus antemurale], with a berquilium. He now adds his grant of the tithe taken on 4 carruce terre, next to the casale of Derina, which had been given to the Holy Sepulchre by King Baldwin II. In the presence of Patriarch Amalric of Jerusalem, Adam Sancti Abrahę prior, together with his convent, gives Petrus Jai, a confrater, and his heirs a casale called Naharia, which is situated next to the well [puteus] on the road that runs from the city of Antioch to the Pons Farfaris, and 2 houses in Antioch, of which one is sited by Sancta Maria Rotunda and the other by the house of the comitissa de Cereph. The properties are given on condition that the rights of the wife of Willelmus Ostiarius/Hostiarius and her heir are preserved and that the rent [census] payable by her in the past to the church of Hebron [Sanctus Abraham] will be rendered to Petrus Jai. Should she or her heir be unwilling to pay or should they die, the properties will pass directly to Petrus. The church of Hebron [Sanctus Abraham] retains pre-emption rights. text: Jun. 15. Raymond III dei gratia comes Tripoli, the son of Count Raymond II, records how Landulfus filius Johannis comitis Mauronis, Mansus Curiali, Lucas Florus, Leo Falangon, Boamundus filius Johannis Marchisani and other probi homines of Amalfi came to his court [curia] and in the presence of his homines, milites and burgenses complained [about the behaviour] of Homodei Mimol, his wife Sibilia, the daughter of Guillelmus Guersus, and Guillelmus Guersus himself in relation to certain houses [in Latakia] belonging to [the church of] St Andrew and the commune of Amalfi [commune Malfitanorum]. The Amalfitans demonstrated by witnesses that they had bought the houses, together with others in the funda. By the court’s judgement Homodei, his wife and father-in-law are to receive 600 Saracen besants. The houses are restored by Count Raymond and his court to St Andrew and the Amalfitans, who will not be liable for servitium. They are bounded by the house of the vicecomes, by houses that once belonged to Stefanus de Nimen and Oliverius pater Carbonelli, by the Tutius vicus in which many things are sold and by the road that runs to the sea towards the house of dominus Rainoardus. Landulfus and his companions, on behalf of St Andrew and Amalfi, give Count Raymond 1200 Saracen besants for his judgement and promise to maintain the count, his land and honour. Pope Alexander III renews for Nicholaus prior and the canons of the Holy Sepulchre the papal protection granted them by his predecessors Popes Honorius II, Innocent II, Celestine II, Lucius II and Eugenius III and he confirms their possessions, referring specifically to confirmations by the patriarchs of Jerusalem of the grants of half of all oblations to the Holy Sepulchre; oblations to the relic of the True Cross, except on Good Friday and when the patriarch has need of them; the tithes of the city of Jerusalem and lands around, except for those from the funda; and the church of St Peter in Jaffa. He confirms the possessions and rights of the canons of the Holy Sepulchre in the Iberian peninsula [Yspania]. He exempts them from the payment of tithes on noval lands, cultivated by themselves or at their expense, and on animal fodder.
