He gives land, commonly called the Jardinum de la Nonua, in the territory of the casale called Bechestin. The land is partly field [campus], partly meadow [pratum]. Its boundaries are as follows. From the mountainside it follows a ditch [fossatum], by the road [via] that runs to the vadum Mortui Fluminis. To the south and west it is coterminous with land belonging to Hugo de Biblio himself. Below, towards Mont Pèlerin, it borders on the land of Rustenus de S. Montano. On 2 sides it adjoins land belonging to the Hospital of St John. Rainaldus Masueri, the son of Rainaldus Masueri, with the agreement of his son Bertrandus, makes an eleemosynary grant to the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, its magister Josbertus and brothers, represented by frater Guarinus de Mesna Hospitalis preceptor. He gives the casalia of Tyron and Corveis. The territory of the latter, stretching towards the castle [castellum] of Margat, has boundaries that were established by the Sarraceni in old times. He also gives the gastina of Meois, the garden before the door of the Hospital at Valenia, and the meadow [pratum] before the casale of Tyron, free from all exactions. He confirms the gift made to the Hospital by Abdelmessie raiz de Margat of three parts of the casale called Meserafe, so that in future all the produce will be shared with Georgius gener Abdelmessie, who holds the fourth part. He also confirms the gift to the Hospital by dominus Martinus de Nazareth of the third part of the produce of the 3 casalia of Belusa, Archamia and Cordia. [139] With the agreement of his wife Orguilosa, eiusdem honoris principissa, Bohemond III dei gratia princeps Antiochenus, son of Prince Raymond, rewards Petrus de Melfia, his homo ligius and vicecomes, for his service [servicium] by giving him the share he has in a mill called Scomodar. This comprises half the octonarius, the other half being paid annually to the monks of St Symeon, and half the tithe of the mill’s vines and other territory that stretches as far as the boundary of Maraban. He also gives the tithes due to him for the vines of Saranjac, parts of which are held by the children of Bonetus, by the nuns of [Pons] Ferri - a part that had belonged to Herveus parvus - and by Petrus de Melfia himself, which he gave to his daughters on their marriage, together with those that had belonged to Ada de rua obscura, Andreas cambiator, Paganus the son of Basilius, and Sibilla, the wife of Petrus de Avionun. Petrus de Melfia can sell or pledge this tithe should he so wish. In return Petrus gives Bohemond 200 besants and a cuppa made of 3 marchae of silver. Baldwin, per dei gratiam in sancta civitate Ierusalem Latinorum rex sextus, confirms by sealed charter the concession in the royal curia in Acre made by Rohardus, with the agreement of his wife Delina, of the drugomanagia of the casalia of Cabur, Tyron and Coket to Barutus and his heirs. The drugomanagia had been given to Barutus by Ivetta, the grandmother of Rohardus, and by her son Petrus Filiolus. Barutus has given Rohardus 225 besants and has paid homage [hominium fecisti] for the drugomanagia. He will receive from every villanus in the casalia 1 modius of wheat and 1 modius of barley for every carrucata that is individually worked; and with respect for each carrucata held in common by the lord [domnus] and the villani, 2 manipuli of wheat and 2 manipuli of barley from the harvest [annona]. When he visits one of the casalia the villani will provide victuals for him and his horse. When he travels outside the casalia with his lord, the latter will provide only for his horse. If he loses the horse in the service of his lord [in servitio domni] the latter will give him 15 besants. For every 100 modii harvested [de annona] communally by the lord and villani, Barutus will receive 6 modii, or less in proportion to the harvest. text: Jun. 1-30. Venice. Rialto. Sebastiano Ziani, doge of Venice, confirms for the church of St Mark and Stephanus Barocius, procurator operis S. Marci, the grant of the Venetian third of Tyre for 5 years, made in January 1164 by Doge Vitalis Michael to Leonardus Fradellus, procurator at the time. Exceptions are a street [ruga], which stretches from the [city] gate to the port, having on one side the ruga sancti Marci and the royal part of Tyre, 300 besants [of revenue], one of the better mills, 2 casalia and one of the better gardens, which were granted to the bishoprics of Jesolo and Torcello. Conceded to the church of St Mark are the revenues from the port and gates, the plateae, fontici, baths, ovens, weights and measures of wine and oil [de stateris, rubis et de mensuris vini et olei], mills and taxation on glass [dationes de vitro]. This is to compensate the church of St Mark for the 1500 besants it raised to assist the Venetians of the ship [navis] of Romanus Mairanus, who fled to Acre from captivity in Constantinople, and for its gift to Venice of 600 Venetian librae. The church may not alienate the property, which should always remain in Venetian ownership. It may not enjoy the proceeds of sugar production in the first year, but can in the sixth, the year following the end of the grant. The witnesses listed are Venetian. Jun. 1-30. Venice. Rialto. text: Aug. 1-31. At the request of Josbertus magister Hospitalis, frater Garinus preceptor and their brothers, and with the agreement of his chapter, Patriarch Amalric of Jerusalem makes a sealed eleemosynary grant to the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem, to benefit the sick. He gives the annual census of 20 besants, payable at Easter, which his church had taken from the house that used to belong to Rotbertus de Belgenci. And he gives the Hospitallers licence to build on the site of that house and the houses of Willelmus Patronus, the abbess of St Lazarus, Petrus Sellarius and Parsanus in the street [vicus] that descends from the Gate of David, when they acquire them. In return the magister and preceptor, with the advice of the chapter of the Hospital of St John, give the patriarch the following rents which they had enjoyed: 36 besants from the house of Odo de Barulo, payable in two equal instalments at Easter and on the Feast of the Holy Cross; 16 besants from the house of Henricus Alemmanus, payable in two equal instalments at Christmas and on the Feast of St John. These houses are next to one another in the street [vicus] in the patriarchal quarter that leads to the Gate of St Stephen. They are bordered to the north by houses which owe rent to the Hospitallers and to the south by a volta, which owes rent to the Hospitallers and is below the house of a Surianus. The Hospitallers also give the canons of the Holy Sepulchre the rent of 7 besants, payable in the middle of March, they have drawn on the statio of Lambertus Patriarche which is in the vicus Coquinatorum. The canons had given this statio to the Hospitallers in exchange for some empty land belonging to the Hospital before the Gate of St Helena. The Hospitallers also gave the rent of 1 besant, which the canons had paid [for this exchange] on the Feast of St Stephen. The Hospitallers confirm that they owe the patriarch 60 besants in rent a year.
