text: Dec. 1-24. [275] Bohemond [IV], son of Prince Bohemond, per Dei gratiam princeps Antiochenus et comes Tripolitanus, makes a sealed grant to the commune of Genoa and all Genoese, represented by Lambertus Fornarius and Belmustus Lercarius, the consuls of Genoa. He gives the Genoese freedom to sell, buy, import and export money freely without the payment of duty [sine omni consuetudine et jure peccunie], except to those Genoese who are burgenses of the kingdom of Jerusalem, the county of Tripoli, the principality of Antioch or Cyprus. He gives the Genoese the right to a curia, but cases of homicide, sedition, rape, money, or physical force on a person or his goods ought to be judged in Bohemond’s curia. The Genoese may buy certain houses in Tripoli. The charter is issued on condition that the Genoese will swear to assist Bohemond in the defence of Tripoli should he require such aid. If an individual should refuse to swear such an oath they will be banished from his land.
