With the agreement of her husband dominus Aymarus de Lairon and her son Galterus, Iuliana domina Cesaree makes an eleemosynary grant under her husband’s seal to the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans in Acre. She gives houses [in Caesarea] that had belonged to Georgius Lormina, the volta of Bernardus Falcilla and the gastina situated between these houses and the house of Petrus de Beugrant, by the public way, as far as another public way that runs towards the sea. She gives the turris Mallart with the platea in front, which extends to the border of a gastina belonging to the Templum Domini, and another little tower opposite, in the angle of the eastern city wall. These towers will be requisitioned by the lord of Caesarea if necessary for defence, but will be returned to the brothers in peacetime. She also gives a field [campus] that belonged to domina Brima. This is bordered on the west by a garden of the Hospital [of St John of Jerusalem], on the south by a field [campus] belonging to dominus Aymarus, on the east by a road that seperates it from the field [campus] of dominus Symon, and on the north by a road that separates it from the field [campus] of domina Grossa. She also confirms an eleemosynary grant made by Iohannes Charles, with the agreement of his mother, his brother Helyas, his sister domina Orgoillosa, Iuliana herself, her husband dominus A. and her son. Iohannes Charles has given the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans 2 fields [campi], a garden and a threshing floor [area] which is at the head of one of the fields. One of these fields has on its western side a field [campus] in which is the agullia sancti Petri, while on the east it borders a field [campus] that had belonged to Rainerius de Gibeleth, in which there was a vineyard. On the south it touches a road that separates it from the garden of the archbishop, and on the north there is a road running to Hadaydon. The area is at the head of this field. The other field [campus] is to the east of these and is separated from them by a little wall [paries]. On the south it touches the field that had belonged to Rainerius de Gibeleth in which there was once a vineyard. On the north it extends from the field [campus] of Iohannes Charles, in which are morvellarii. Within it on the eastern side and at its head is a carob tree [karoblers], next to the field [campus] of dominus Galterius de Cesarea in which there used to be a vineyard. The garden adjoins the city wall on the western side It is separated from the garden of P. Gasta to the east by road. On the south it touches a field [campus] which was once the garden of Iohannes Lermina, from which extends the field of Iohannes Charles. On the north is the garden of the archbishop. Iohannes de Ybelino domnus Beriti et regni Ierosolimitani baiulus records how Iohannes Tortus came into his presence, and that of the High Court [regalis curia] and asked of Iohannes de Ybelino and the vassals [homines] of the Lady Maria, regni honorabilis domna, licence to sell his house in Acre to settle his debts. After taking counsel from the vassals of the Lady [Maria], Iohannes de Ybelino judged that the licence could not be granted. On the response of Iohannes Tortus that he would have to sell either his fief [feodum] or his house to pay his debts, the court decided to change its decision and permit Iohannes Tortus to sell his house in order to retain his fief. And so, in the presence of the baiulus Iohannes de Ybelino, who sealed the charter, and of the High Court [regalis curia] and with the agreement of Maria, the wife of Iohannes Tortus, his sister Beatrix and her husband Willelmus de Monliart, Iohannes Tortus sold his house to the Hospital of St Mary of the Germans in Acre for 2700 Saracen besants. The house is bordered on the east by the houses of Mt Tabor and of Beloais, the royal way [via regia] and the houses that belonged to Petrus Bordin, on the west, by the house of Bonefrage filius Sahit, the rua Judeorum, the house of the Jews and the stable [stabulum] of Renerius scriptor, on the north by the house of Maria, the wife of the late priest of the church of St Mary Magdalene, and on the south by the royal way [via regia] and the house held by domna Hauhis of Iohannes Tortus. In return for her agreement to the surrender of this house, the brothers of the Hospital of St Mary have given Hauhis 300 Saracen besants and 2 marchae argenti. The Lady Maria has had 200 besants from the brothers of the Hospital for her agreement to the sale. Vitalis Faletro, resident de confiniis S Moysi, hands over to the doge Petro Ziani and the commune of Venice the casale called Metessele in the Venetian third of the territory of Tyre, situated on the border between Tyre and the region of Scandelion, which had belonged to Dominicus Batiauro and had been given and enfeoffed to Vitalis by his brother the late Leo Faletro, who was prelatus of the Venetian third of the city. The boundaries of the casale are described in a charter issued in April 1171 by the doge Vital Michele. Frater Gaufridus magister Hospitalis records that he had asked Bohemond, princeps Antiochie et comes Tripolis, to confirm the possession by the Hospital of St John of Jerusalem of a land before Befania. The Hospitallers had released the prince from [his obligation to] the heir of Guillelmus Porcelet, when that heir came of age. If in future the heir should challenge this and the court should judge [per judicium curie] that the land should be returned to him, the Hospital would restore it. The boundaries of the land are as follows. On the east it borders land of the Hospital and land that had belonged to Georgius Porcellet. On the south there is the rivus de Gerol .... On the west it borders the Rivus Vetus, which flows when it rains. It adjoins the same river to the north. Stones are placed on each of the four corners of the land.
